Design Principal, Architect, LEED AP
IOANA URMA
"I like to focus on getting our projects built and ensuring the forms, materials, and details stay true to concept."
As a design principal with a passion for seeing projects go from concept through to built reality, Ioana focuses on the schematic and design development phases of our very large international projects. With a solid technical background, Ioana oversees design down to the details, coordinating communication with the local architects of record and consulting engineers.
Raised in Romania, LA, and Boston, Ioana obtained her bachelor's degree in interior design from Cornell University and her masters degree in architecture, with a concentration in urban design, from M.I.T. Prior to joining Hopscape, Ioana worked at several award-winning architecture firms in Boston, Princeton, and Durham, NC, including as an associate at Maryann Thompson Architects. She also worked independently as architectural consultant on such renowned projects as the North End Parks over Boston's Big Dig, and as a senior designer at the Jerde Partnership. At Jerde, Ioana worked on very large-mixed use projects in Las Vegas, Dubai, Romania, and California, independently overseeing the construction phase of the NoHo Commons. Ioana is a LEED AP licensed architect in California.
Apart from practice, Ioana has also taught architecture and design studios at Art Center College of Design, Otis College of Art & Design, Roger Williams University, and the Boston Architectural College; and she has served as invited juror on reviews at MIT, Harvard, RISD, CalPoly Pomona, Woodbury, Art Center, Otis, Wentworth, Roger Williams, and the BAC.
